Here is the other hobby in my life.   It's a 4 x 12 ft O-27 train layout that I've been building for the past few years.   As you can see I like Lionel trains both old and new.   I also like the play-value of "toy" trains and I try to hook up as many electrical gizmo's as I can.   The layout has an upper and lower level connected to each other with a ramp.   I can run three trains simultaneously and have an additional four trains parked on the tracks at the same time.   Pretty good I think for 4x12.
An earlier photo showing the layout in progress.
Here is my display cabinet.   To achieve the tiered levels, I used 2 inch foam insulation and stacked and glued them together.   It's light weight so as to not add alot of weight to each shelf, yet allows you to see the trains so much better.
Just like the clocks; The older the better.   I have a real soft spot in my heart for the prewar tin trains
Since the tarin table is next to a regular walkway in the basement, I had to hide the control panels.   Here they are closed.
This photo shows the right hand drawer with all the transformers.   Instead of having one or two huge (expensive) transformers, I opted for several small ones.   This way they fit into the drawer.
The left hand drawer contains all the switches for activating uncouplers, track switches, power distribution and accessories.
Here is the bottom side of the left hand drawer showing all the flexible wires going to the distribution blocks
Here is a Lionel Log Loader that I kitbashed.   I found a building from a Lionel Sawmill, made a frame for the conveyor, and put it together as you see.   On the layout, after logs are "processed" in the sawmill, they drop thru to the log loader.   From there, they can be loaded onto a log car and brought back up to the sawmill and dropped off.
That's it for now!
