So here is a clock that I only dreamed about having until recently. But now I have acquired this treasure. Purchased off ebay, I believe I am actually the second owner of this magnificent clock. As received the clock is missing the dial and two of the four feet, other than that it is completely original and complete down to the unique crescent shaped winding key. I will need re-veneer the front of the clock. Other than that it only needs cleaning up and tuning up.
This clock came out of an estate from upstate New York where it was stored for years in the barn along with countless other treasures. I purchased the clock knowing that the dial was not present. Then to my good fortune, the original dial was found in the barn tucked away in a closet wrapped in paper. I am now eagerly waiting for the dial to be re-united with this clock after who knows how many years of separation
The biggest challenge to this restoration will be replacing the entire front of it's veneer. It was about 90% gone as recieved. These pictures show the case dismantled and the veneer removed.
Here is the clamp set up for applying teh new rosewood veneer. Epoxy casts were taken from the front of a steeple clock and have bee cut to fit the tip of the steeple here for clamping.
